What is the comparative form of ‘Alam is the best boy in the class’?

Comparative degree:

Adjective যখন দুইটি ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীর মধ্যে তুলনা করা বোঝায়, তখন adjective এর যে form বা রূপটি ব্যবহার করা হয়, তাকে Comparative degree বলে।

Comparative degree এর structure:

Subject + verb + adjective a comparative form + than + noun

For example:

Rana is smarter than Rabbi.

She is taller than her sister.

He is more outstanding than she.

Comparative Degree - চেনার উপায়: দুটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মধ্যে তুলনা বোঝায়। বাক্যে সাধারণত Adjective/Adverb-এর Comparative form (শেষে -er বা পূর্বে more/less) থাকে এবং এরপর than বসে।

চাকরির পরীক্ষার জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ Rules:

Rule 1: Latin Comparatives (যেখানে than এর পরিবর্তে to বসে) কিছু ল্যাটিন শব্দ আছে যেগুলোর পর তুলনার ক্ষেত্রে 'than' না বসে 'to' বসে। চাকরি পরীক্ষায় এটি সবচেয়ে বেশি আসে।

• শব্দগুলো: Senior, Junior, Superior, Inferior, Prior, Posterior, Prefer.

• Example: He is senior to me. (He is senior than me হবে না)

• Example: I prefer milk to tea.

Rule 2: Double Comparative (যত... তত... বোঝাতে) দুটি কাজ একই সাথে বা আনুপাতিক হারে বাড়লে বা কমলে, উভয়াংশের শুরুতেই The + Comparative form বসে।

• গঠন: The + Comparative ... the + Comparative.

• Example: The more you read, the more you learn.

• Example: The sooner, the better.

Rule 3: Superlative থেকে Comparative রূপান্তর

• নিয়ম A (সাধারণ Superlative): বাক্যে The + Superlative থাকলে, Comparative করার সময় than any other বসে।

  • Question: Dhaka is the biggest city in Bangladesh.

  • Answer: Dhaka is bigger than any other city in Bangladesh. (এখানে city সিঙ্গুলার হবে)

• নিয়ম B (One of the যুক্ত Superlative): বাক্যে One of the থাকলে, Comparative করার সময় than most other বা than many other বসে।

  • Question: Iron is one of the most useful metals.

  • Answer: Iron is more useful than most other metals. (এখানে metals প্লুরাল হবে)

Rule 4: Positive থেকে Comparative রূপান্তর

• নিয়ম A (No other যুক্ত): Positive sentence 'No other' দিয়ে শুরু হলে Comparative এ than any other বসে।

  • Question: No other boy in the class is as tall as Hasan.

  • Answer: Hasan is taller than any other boy in the class.

• নিয়ম B (Very few যুক্ত): Positive sentence 'Very few' দিয়ে শুরু হলে Comparative এ than most other বসে।

  • Question: Very few countries are as rich as America.

  • Answer: America is richer than most other countries.

Rule 5: Gradually বৃদ্ধি বা হ্রাস পাওয়া কোনো কিছু ক্রমান্বয়ে বাড়ছে বা কমছে বোঝালে Comparative and Comparative ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Example: The weather is getting hotter and hotter.

• Example: She is becoming more and more beautiful.

Rule 6: Elder vs Older

• Elder: শুধু নিজের পরিবারের সদস্যদের (ভাই/বোন) মধ্যে বয়সে বড় বোঝাতে elder বসে এবং এর পর than বসে না, to বসতে পারে। (যেমন: He is my elder brother.)

• Older: পরিবারের বাইরের ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে older বসে এবং এর পর than বসে। (যেমন: Rahim is older than Karim.)
